We recently assisted a system comprised of several hospitals and over 30 clinic and outpatient centers dispersed over a large geographic area to consolidate and streamline operational and clinical roles and functions to improve the efficiency and profitability of two large physician organizations that had been acquired and placed into a medical foundation. The physician enterprises consist of a large medical group, and an independent practice association, physician practice consulting and Medicare Advantage insurance agency. The organization is an approved Accountable Care Organization. Together, these organizations represent over 600 employed and contracted primary care and specialty physicians. In addition, they contract with over 1000 additional physicians though managed care agreements. We also created strategies to position the foundation to play the key role in developing and implementing clinical integration system-wide.
